If Fairfax feels like it is living in a time warp, that’s just fine with its residents who have passed ordinances prohibiting chain stores, plastic bags, and Styrofoam takeout food packaging. The art deco movie theater on Broadway, and nightclub 19 Broadway which features live music are at the center of the action when it comes to nightlife in Fairfax.
Kids can still ride their bikes to school in Fairfax. Fairfax is served by three public schools, Virginia Avenue Elementary, Shirley Lane Elementary, and Fairfax Middle School, all of which are strongly supported by parents and civic groups.
