With its sunny weather and central Marin location, Greenbrae is a big draw for those who want close proximity to abundant open space, along with the advantages of a major metropolitan area. Only a three-minute drive from the Larkspur Landing Ferry Terminal and just sixteen miles from San Francisco, Greenbrae is a convenient locale for area commuters. The town began as a model community, planned and developed by builder Niels Schultz in the 1940s. Great care was taken to retain the original oak trees that graced its rolling hillsides. Greenbrae’s Marin General Hospital adds the extra convenience of close-by physicians and medical facilities.
The 2571-foot peak of Mt. Tamalpais provides a dramatic backdrop for the town. Mt. Tam’s miles of trails through redwood groves and oak woodlands invite hikers of all abilities. A multi-use path ambles beside Corte Madera Creek, giving Greenbrae’s residents a welcome place to stretch their legs and watch for wood ducks and egrets.
